Obama, of course, says he didn't know Air Force One was flying around NYC, scaring the heck out of New Yorkers. (Why would he care? Most NYC residents would vote for him even if he told Bloomberg to raise their taxes to 100%.)
Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, said Monday afternoon that he was unaware of the flyover. At his daily press briefing, Mr. Gibbs initially referred questions to the F.A.A. and the Air Force. When told that those government offices were referring questions to the White House, Mr. Gibbs said: “I have no information on this other than what I saw.”
Gawd, how smart this administration is. What a genius Obama is.
Of course many NYers were scared. They would not be able to recognize Air Force One from a telephone pole. Even if they had recognized the plane, they must certainly know that the Empty Suited One might take out their city to save the government some money. He certainly wouldn't use torture to save them, as Bush allowed to save Los Angeles. (A possible miscue)
